How to Run a Self-Sustaining Short Term Rental

Now more than ever you may feel busier and more stressed out.  Looking to destress, you aim to simplify things in your life that currently take up a lot of time and energy.  You go through your mental list one by one till you end up hitting rental property.  This one makes you scratch your head a bit.  It’s the one on your list you’ve dreaded trying to figure out because you’ve pushed it off for so long.  It takes up so much time, and energy trying to maintain the property let alone be a gracious host while balancing your kids/pets/cactus among other things. So what do you do? Do you stop renting out your property, or do you continue dreading it?  What if there’s actually a secret third option, that you haven’t thought about: switching your short term rental from dependent on you to self-sustaining.

Take note of all your STR problems

This may seem like an added stressor: re-working the entire way you looked at your rental, but when you start fresh, you create room for improvement that wasn’t there before. Could you imagine fixing everything causing you stress with your rental, and then have it run even better than before?  Well, hopefully you said yes.  Let’s begin: go through your rental, what is causing you the most anguish? Do you find yourself not answering guests' messages because you are too busy or maybe you don’t have enough time to thoroughly clean your property when it starts getting busier? Jot them all down.  More often than not, you’ll find that the most aggravating parts are easily solved by automation.

Opening a door has never been so easy

Having a guest check in is a bit of a nail biting process.  Unlike hotels with multi person concierge, when a guest checks into their short term rental, they're completely on their own. You’re constantly checking to see if they’ve got in alright, and there hasn’t been any trouble finding the key.   When automating this process, you’ll notice that guests rely on themselves and the technology to check in.  Having a smart lock and key system can allow you to remotely let them in, just in case they are having troubles as well! Right there, you’ve removed the stress of the guest and your stress when trying to access your rental. But the automation doesn’t stop there when checking in. Wouldn’t it be great if you could have the cleanings taken care of too?

Well, with certain PMS options, you can automate this too. By automatically scheduling a house clean after a guest, you free yourself in two ways.  For starters, you don’t have to worry about cleaning your property yourself -- which during COVID-19, why risk missing a spot or endangering yourself, and secondly, it saves you time and frees your mind up.  When you automatically schedule a cleaning, you don’t have to do the whole process, and don’t have to wonder if your property has been properly cleaned.

Enso Connect's Smart AI chat assistant

What if your guest has a question about your rental? What if you have multiple guests at the moment? Well, it seems like you’re getting stretched thin trying to answer these questions.  Luckily, some PMS options have multi-channel management where you can access all of your guests’ messages all in one place.  And even better, with Enso Connect, we offer a smart AI assistant who can even answer their questions for you.  So not only are you saving time, but not repeating the same Wifi username and password every rental like a mockingbird.

Rental automation can save you time, and give you peace of mind if properly leveraged.  Our best advice is to research which PMS aligns best with your needs, but if you’re ever curious about Enso Connect, feel free to reach out.  Send an email to contact@ensoconnect.com, and we would be happy to help you go over a PMS solution that suits your needs.
